If equipped, Genesis Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist, or PCA, is an innovative safety system that is designed to detect obstacles when driving at low speeds (such as parking) and prevent minor crashes by providing warnings and automatically applying the brakes, if necessary. It is enabled when:

●        The liftgate, or trunk, and doors are fully closed.

●        The parking brake is released.

●        Vehicle speed is below 2 mph for front and side detection, and under 6 mph for reverse detection.

How to Enable, Disable, and Customize PCA

Your car comes with Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist turned on by default. However, you can easily adjust its settings to fit your driving style:

Turning the System On or Off

If you ever need to disable PCA, simply:

1. Press and hold the Parking Safety button in the center console for more than two seconds. The light on the Parking Safety button will turn off when deactivated.
2. Or use the infotainment system by pressing the Setup button. Then select Vehicle, Driver Assistance, and then Parking Safety. Here, you can deselect the checkbox to deactivate Forward/Side Safety and Rear Safety separately. Note that Forward/Side Safety can only be selected if Rear Safety is already selected.

Customize Your PCA Settings

●        Modify Warning Timing:

o    Press the Setup button and then select Vehicle, Driver Assistance, and then Warning Timing.

o    Choose between Standard or Late warning timing.

●        Change Warning Volume:

o    Press the Setup button and then select Vehicle, Driver Assistance, and then Warning Methods.

o    Choose between High, Medium, or Low volume levels for the warning alerts.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), rear-end collisions account for nearly 30% of all reported crashes. Many of these accidents happen at low speeds in parking lots or driveways. It is recommended to turn on Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist to help prevent these accidents and reduce injury.
