How OTA Update(s) Work

Instead of downloading files to a USB drive or SD card, OTA updates are downloaded wireless in the background while you drive. When the download is complete, the update can be installed after the vehicle is turned off. 

Eligibility Requirements

To receive OTA map updates, your vehicle must meet the following requirements: 

Vehicle is equipped with a compatible infotainment and navigation system.

• Vehicle is equipped with a compatible infotainment and navigation system
• Active Genesis Connected Services subscription: 
  • If your vehicles mirror overhead console has an SOS button, you can subscribe to Genesis Connected Services
• Vehicle is in an area with sufficient cellular connectivity.
• A  new Update is available for your vehicle.

When Update Notifications Appear:

Once the download is complete, an installation prompt will typically appear after the vehicle is turned off and before the driver door is opened.

How to Perform an OTA Update:

1. Drive your vehicle as usual. If an update is available, it will download automatically in the background.
2. Park the vehicle and turn the ignition OFF once the download is complete.
3. Wait for the installation prompt to appear on the infotainment screen.
4. Select "Update Now" (or 'Start') to begin installation.
5. Leave the vehicle parked while the update installs. Some features may be temporarily unavailable during this time. 
6. The system will automatically restart after the installation is complete. 
7. When installation is complete, confirm the update using the on-screen message or through system settings.

The following are helpful tips.

Why the update prompt may not appear: 

In some cases, your vehicle's media settings and recent system activity can affect whether the update installation prompt appears after you turn the vehicle off. 

Media setting that may affect the prompt: 

A setting called Continue playing Media when Vehicle is Turned OFF can impact how the update prompt setting is the following: Setup > General > Media Options

By default, this setting is Off. When it is off, the radio may shut down immediately when the vehicle is turned off. If that happens, the update prompt may not have enough time to appear, or it may appear only briefly and close before you can select an option.

If you turn off the vehicle off and back on quickly: 

Turning the vehicle off and then back on again too quickly can also prevent the update prompt from appearing. 

For example, if you turn the vehicle back on briefly to close a window or make another quick adjustment, your phone connection may begin reconnecting right away. If you then turn the vehicle off again while the system is still reconnecting, the update prompt may not appear.

Helpful tips

If you are expecting to see the update prompt, it may help to allow the system enough time to fully power down before turning the vehicle back on again. 

Setup ->  Device Connections ->  touch the illuminated icon to turn off that connected source.

If the installation pop-up closes quickly or does not appear, try disconnecting your Android Auto or Apple CarPlay device from the settings menu.
